Venom

Without antivenom treatment, a black mamba bite has a near-100% fatality rate. Its venom is a powerful cocktail of neurotoxins and cardiotoxins that causes paralysis, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest. Symptoms begin within 10 minutes; death can occur in 7 to 15 hours without treatment. It delivers up to 400mg of venom per bite — far more than needed to kill a human.

Honey badgers can survive bites from highly venomous snakes including cobras, puff adders, and black mambas. Their bodies carry a mutated form of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor that prevents snake neurotoxins from binding effectively. After being bitten, a honey badger may collapse but typically recovers within hours.

While painful and often requiring medical attention, the vast majority of scorpion stings are not deadly to healthy adults, with only about 25 of the 2,500+ known species possessing venom potent enough to be lethal. Children and the elderly are most vulnerable to severe reactions.

This unique combination of traits makes them one of the most peculiar creatures on Earth, defying typical mammalian reproduction and defense mechanisms. Only male platypuses possess the venomous spurs on their hind legs.
