Historic City

This ancient citadel, perched atop a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, is a labyrinth of narrow streets, traditional houses, and Ottoman palaces. It represents a unique example of a traditional Islamic city and played a pivotal role during the Algerian War of Independence.

This UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its Ottoman-era houses cascading down a hillside, with numerous windows appearing to stare out from the white facades. It offers picturesque views across the Osum River.

Known for its distinctive Ottoman-era stone houses, often resembling small fortresses, Gjirokastër is a well-preserved example of a Balkan trading town. Its steep cobbled streets and castle add to its charm.
