The Spark for World War I Was Ignited in Sarajevo
On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian nationalist. This event directly led to the outbreak of the First World War.
