Albania Generates Almost All Its Electricity From Hydro-Power

Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy, and peace. She founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977, which mobilized poor rural women to plant trees, restore degraded land, and improve local livelihoods. Under her leadership, the movement planted over 51 million trees across Kenya. She was also the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctoral degree.

China produces approximately 50-55% of the world's steel output annually, making it by far the dominant force in global steel markets. This massive production capacity fueled China's rapid urbanization and infrastructure boom. However, it has also led to global trade tensions, particularly with the US and EU, over dumping concerns and unfair subsidies.

China accounts for about 30% of global CO₂ emissions — more than the US and EU combined. Yet it also leads the world in installed renewable energy capacity, with the most solar panels, wind turbines, and hydropower of any nation. China manufactures over 80% of the world's solar panels and has pledged to reach carbon neutrality by 2060.

The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is the world's largest hydropower facility by installed capacity, generating up to 22,500 megawatts. Completed in 2003 with full capacity reached by 2012, it required the relocation of over 1.3 million people. The dam provides flood control, navigation improvements, and roughly 1.7% of China's total electricity supply.
